The universe is purposeless
- April 24th, 2008
Even if there was a god or gods who had given us a purpose, for example to entertain it or to give some solution to a problem of his through evolution, that god would also need a purpose, otherwise our purpose is meaningless.
Most people that ponder the question are thinking about what is the meaning of life, when it is clear that you need to look way beyond.. A better question would be, does the universe have a purpose? The answer, with roughly 99.99% certainty, is no. No common religion or a known answer from a person provides a logical, valid, unarguable answer. I would even accept a possible purpose for the universe, like some kind that would only be true if the universe was a certain way. But I am yet to find even a possible purpose for it and it seems to be a fact that while every intelligent thing can give a thing with lower intelligence a purpose, that purpose is meaningless unless the more intelligent thing has a purpose and if there’s some kind of a god who created the universe, it will need a purpose, other than creating things (because that is not a valid purpose). If there’s no god, then there’s just as surely no purpose because a randomly generated universe almost has to be meaningless. No amount of alternative universes/dimensions will make things meaningful either. Any alternative realities that I imagined or read about would give no meaning either.
Death is just as meaningless even if we go to hell/heaven or reincarnate as something else after it, think about it with your logic, not with your emotions or through your religion. Life is sure enough meaningless, but so is death so there’s no point killing yourself either. However if you are to be entirely logical, even the slightest chance that the universe has a purpose is enough to make life more meaningful than death but I’m human and thus I can’t accept what is in my opinion a 0.0001% chance, so from now on I’ll be living in a way that just tries to satisfy both my emotions and logic, for there’s now no reason to fight my stupid emotions.
I’ve even been thinking about going to some island or whatever and live like aboriginals but I’m not so sure that would make me any happier because I’m used to live in a modern society. Luckily for us humans, a while after you’ve realized that there’s no meaning of life, many humans will actually be able to live happier for they are now free to do whatever and take more risks without caring about the consequenses so much, although our stupid governments take a lot of our freedom away from us.
Because of this realization, I probably won’t create more posts for a while because personal development is just as meaningless as everything else and I’m currently not enjoying writing about it that much vs. doing other stuff. This post even invalidates some other posts of mine so it is better that you have now read this before reading my other posts.
Time travel is almost surely not possible
- January 20th, 2008
Many people also argue that if time travel was possible, we would see time travelers every now and then but they fail to understand that it would probably have to be doable only through some physical device that has to have existed and be turned on for time travel to be possible to that time.
Effective fat burning diet that lets you eat fat
- September 19th, 2007
You can look for a website that has a counter that lets you estimate how much kilocalories you can eat every day. Take that figure and deduct 500 kcal from it to get the figure that you’re going to use on this diet. Also add 50% to it to get the Bulk Day figure.
No exercises are required when on this diet. If you do any kind of sports on a day, you should eat more that day. So eat more the amount of energy that you spend for sports.
In this diet you eat only 20 grams (0.044 pounds) of carbohydrates every day and 500 kilocalories of energy less than what your body uses daily. So you’ll be eating more than in the average fat burning diet. You’ll be avoiding eating anything that has carbohydrates and eating a lot of things like eggs, cheese, peanuts, bacon, cream, fish, butter, sausages, meat but none of things like rice, bread, spaghetti, pizza, hamburger, candy, chocolate etc except on Bulk Days.
Your daily energy intake should consist of about 35% or more of protein and 65% of fat minus 20 grams of carbohydrates. Do keep in mind that one gram of fat has as much energy as two grams of protein.
One day of every week after the first 2 weeks of being on this diet should be a Bulk Day. On the bulk day you should eat roughly 50% more of energy than you spend that day. In the Bulk Day you should restrict fat intake instead of carbohydrates. So you’ll be eating just protein and carbs with as little fat as possible. This will take you out of the ketosis state for a day or two but it will be something to look forward to and it will keep your metabolism high. I’ve read that weight loss results are about the same with or without the Bulk Day. During the Bulk Day you can eat candy, low fat chips, bread etc. but not pizza, chocolate or hamburgers for example.
This diet loses its effectiveness after about 6 months and I recommend you to be on this diet a maximum of five months.
This diet was supposed to be a good one for those who want to keep as much of their muscles as possible on a fat burning diet and while I might have kept my muscles, my strength in the gym decreased too much and it didn’t quickly get back to my before diet level after the diet. So I don’t recommend this to anyone who takes his gym training seriously but I do recommend this to everyone else who have a lot of self-discipline or like eating fatty foods and want to lose weight. Both women and men should find this diet to be effective.
If you’re going to start this diet, I suggest you to read more about it first elsewhere. You’ll be needing some dietary supplements like vitamins and I can’t instruct you in English about that properly.
The results
- 14.July.2007 I weighed 88.7 kilos in the morning. This was the day I started this diet.
- 23.July.2007 I weighed 86.6 kilos in the morning. This was the day I lowered my daily calorie intake to the proper amount. I first thought that I should eat as much energy as I use on this diet, but no. Silly mistake.
- 25.July.2007 I weighed 86.2 kilos, right before my first Bulk Day, which was that day.
- 27.July.2007 I weighed 86.1 kilos, so the extra weight gained from Bulk Day disappears quickly.
- 29.July.2007 I weighed 85.5 kilos
- 30.July.2007 I weighed 85.1 kilos
- 3.August.2007 I weighed 85.7 kilos - I started using Creatine Pyruvate on 1st of August 2007. One guy reported that this dietary supplement meant for body builders and alike increased his weight by 2 kilos on this diet within 7 days after first use.
- 4.August.2007 I weighed 85.1 kg - Even though I took Creatine Pyruvate on 3rd of August.
- 8.August.2007 I weighed 84.4 kg - Some time after this I started eating over 30 grams of carbohydrates, which is too much as you can see in the results.
- 13.August.2007 I weighed 84.6 kg
- 14.August.2007 I weighed 84.3 kg
- 19.August.2007 I weighed 84.4 kg - After this I stopped eating over 30 grams of carbohydrates.
- 21.August.2007 I weighed 83.7 kg
- 22.August.2007 I weighed 83.1 kg
- 24.August.2007 I weighed 83.7 kg
- 27.August.2007 I weighed 83.3 kg
- 29.August.2007 I weighed 82.5 kg
- 2.September.2007 I weighed 83 kg
- 5.September.2007 I weighed 82.1 kg
- 8.September.2007 I weighed 82.7 kg
- 12.September.2007 I weighed 81.2 kg
Exactly one week after the diet, today, I weigh 82.4 kilos / 181.6 pounds, so the weight increase after diet because of an increase of fluids in the body was not huge and I expected it to be exactly what it is.
Niche vs. General business
- August 6th, 2007
By creating niche things, you will have much less competition and often you can charge more from your customers. But the amount of growth potential will be severely limited unless you’re planning to expand into many niches.
Yes, you can make up to a few millions with some narrow niche businesses if you found a great niche with little to no competition and you know what you’re doing, but in general much less. And while I’d say that it’s generally easier to make a living running a niche business than a general one, I will from now on avoid making products/businesses that have less than up to 100 million dollars of yearly income potential because that’s a sign of too narrow niche to me.
Let’s say that you made an application that translates Portuguese into Finnish and is clearly the best that does it and you’re selling it online. Not only would the population of Finland limit it severely. It would have a very small chance of being profitable enough to be able to be advertised on Finnish radios/magazines/tv or even websites because only a very small percentage of Finnish people would need such software and there’s little to none Finnish websites or magazines that are solely about Portugese or Portugal. So it would be extremely hard to get the word out because press releases wouldn’t do enough and you’d probably only be able to sell it to a few other companies and some schools by contacting them. The effect of word of mouth would be very severely limited as well. So the business would end up as a failure or slight success at best because the picked niche was just too narrow.
The above example has an extremely narrow niche but more common niches have the same problem but of a lesser magnitude. So by having businesses that sell general products or services you’re not limiting your growth potential and you’re able to make the most out of advertising, affiliates, word of mouth etc.
Sorry about not posting here more often, lately I’ve been too busy with my businesses. Anyway I’m now running an Atkins Diet like diet test and the I’ll make a post about that after a month or so.
